FAQ'S

Do I need to be a singer to participate?

No. Singing is a very natural practice and it is important for humans beings as much as other ways of creative expression If you can speak, you are most likely to be able to sing. This is because we need to be able to reproduce sounds in difference frequencies to be able to produce a sound that others can recognize as a word. In fact only a very small special percentage of people cannot sing or are "tone deaf". In my experience it is all about practice, patience, beliefs around singing, education and other causes.

We are very inclusive of first timers and every activity is an invitation. You can take as much time to participate as you want. We also perform breathing and singing exercises to strengthen your voice and tips to help you sing .

PLEASE NOTE:

How much are the classes?

Pay what you can. If you cannot pay come for free, it is that simple.

When was "Sounds From Home" Singing workshop Started?

I was singing with a group of friends and I had the idea of creating this singing group last year in October mainly to bring songs from the African diaspora to Brighton to celebrate Black History Festival at The Actors, and we also sing many songs and styles from all over the world.

Why is this singing group free/donation?

I am making this singing group by donation courtesy of The Actors Pub's landlord Joe Sudell, to make this accessible to the community.

How singing improves my health and wellbeing?

There are many studies by the World Health Organization that show that singing regularly

-calm your body and mind

-to reduce stress and anxiety

- increase focus and clarity

- decrease tension and fatigue

- boost your mood and reduces feelings of anger

- improve sleep and elevate feelings of spiritual well-being.

Who is running the classes?

Hello, my name is Adriana and I sing and perform since I was very little. Also, is a tradition in my family to sing in a circle to help family and friends, give advice, for healing and other traditional practices.

While studying to become a medical doctor I joined a choir and inspired by the choir director I went to study classical singing during the night with Maestra Gladys Puig.

After graduating, I ended up singing many traditions and styles up to this day. I sing professionally, but I also have years of experience as a singing workshop leader. I love choirs & singing groups and to encourage people to sing.
